As a trained maths-specialist teacher, I am passionate about teaching maths effectively. Sadly, it is often the case that schools do not provide enough support to make sure every child has grasped a concept and will then move on, leaving some children confused. If this is not addressed, children start to lose their confidence and label themselves ‘bad at maths’. It is my firm belief that nobody is inherently ‘bad at maths’, but that concepts have not been taught to them in the right way for them.
In my role as a maths tutor, I go right back to basics to uncover the early misconceptions that are holding them back in school. Working together at the student’s pace, we use concrete, pictorial, and abstract resources to illuminate and resolve these challenges. Through this tailored methodology, children quickly become much more confident in their own ability and much more able to tackle and succeed in the maths they are learning at school.
Over the years, I’ve encountered numerous students who were several years behind age-related expectations, struggling in both school and at home. Through my personalised tutoring approach, I’ve successfully guided them back on track, witnessing remarkable transformations. Some have even progressed from the bottom set to the top!As well as addressing foundational gaps, I also provide preparation for SATS, GCSEs and National 4 and 5 exams. Whether your child is grappling with fundamental concepts or seeking to refine their skills, I am committed to ensuring they are fully prepared for these significant assessments. I have over six years of experience in preparing children for the 11 plus exam for both grammar and independent schools. Unlike some tutors who solely rely on going through practice papers, my approach involves systematically teaching children how to navigate every question type they might encounter, equipping them with the most effective strategies.
